Libraries Closed for Holiday Weekend
The Libraries will be CLOSED Friday, July 3 and Saturday, July 4, in observance of Independence Day.

However, there are still lots of library offerings to take advantage of virtually!

We have lots of online book clubs, unique online programs, and a growing YouTube Channel!

Happy Retirement, Pam Gibson!
Librarian Pam Gibson retires after 43.5 years with Manatee County!

Pam Gibson’s contributions to the Library and the County are legendary. She worked as a summer page for the public library when it was still at the Bradenton Carnegie Library building on 15th St. W, then as a librarian after graduate school at Florida State University. When the Central Library opened in 1978, Pam co-founded the Elizabeth Eaton Florida History Room (Eaton was a local philanthropist who left a trust for the establishment of a history room and its collections at Central; the trust still exists today).

Pam has collected 10,000s of local and Florida history items over the decades, including photo negatives donated by the Manatee County Historical Society which were eventually digitized. In her capacity as a longtime board member with the Manatee County Historical Society, she also researched and facilitated the placement of several historical markers around the County.

Pam and Information Services staff have cataloged many digitized photos, texts, and maps over the years; over 35,000 items are accessible online via the Manatee Libraries’ Historic Digital Collections. Pam has also helped many authors with their historical research and is herself published in journals such as Tampa Bay History.

We give many, many thanks to Pam Gibson for her years of service, her unique spirit, and legacy of preserving local history!
New Program!
Manatee County Libraries is excited to announce a new program called Civic Lab.

Civic Labs offer information and discussion on various community issues and current events.

Our first Civic Lab will focus on Elections. What is the purpose of a primary election? What other elections are scheduled for Manatee County voters this year? What are the options to cast your ballot?

For this month's discussion, we will be joined by Michael Bennett, Manatee County Supervisor of Elections - where he will give a brief presentation, followed by time for questions and answers.

A handout of resources will be provided to attendees ahead of the scheduled Zoom meeting.
