The MCPL Summer Learning Program is almost here! Get ready to snap a photo with your branch's manatee to kick off the excitement. Look out for these cute critters on social media as we gear up to boost summer literacy. The 2024 program starts on June 1st with the theme "Adventure Begins at Your Library," featuring each branch decked out as a National Park!

Manatee County EMS will be conducting a health clinic for those who need blood pressure and blood sugar checks, prescription management assistance, medical case management, and housing assessments for the homeless.

Hurricane Safety for Kids
Join us for an educational presentation about hurricanes and hurricane safety Matthew Myers, Acting Chief of Emergency Management. Learn how storms form and what you and your kids can do to prepare for hurricane season. Participants will meet Pepper the Prepper Pup and take home a goody bag. This program is designed for kids 5 and older, but all are welcome.

Kick Start Your Creative Writing

Have you always wanted to write a memoir, novel, or short story, but don’t know how to get started? Attend this four-session workshop to learn the basics of crafting characters, plot, setting, and dialogue! Each session will include in-class writing prompts to help you go from ideas in your head to words on paper fast. Attendance for each week encouraged, but not required.

Science Fiction/Fantasy Book Club

Come read with us across galaxies and through enchanted forests by joining our Science Fiction/Fantasy book group!  This book club meets on the third Saturday of every month. We read not only sci-fi and fantasy classics, but also newer and more diverse voices in the genre. We’ll read graphic novels and short story collections, too! For our first meeting in May, we’ll be discussing Terry Pratchett’s first discworld book, The Colour of Magic.
