Our Summer Reading Program Launches Today!
All Together Now, our summer reading program for ages 0-17, launches today!   We will "travel the world together" as part of this theme - each of our Manatee Library locations will represent a different region in the world!

There will be reading prizes for all ages and dedicated free events weekly at each location, plus a special challenge for teens!

Take a Road Trip with Our Online Book Club!

Want to join a book club, but prefer to meet up online?  Our Literary Road Trip Book Club is the perfect option, letting readers like you connect and talk about great books!

Summer Vacation for Donations!

June 1 starts summer vacation for donations! Due to space and staffing considerations, Manatee Library will not be accepting donations of books and other items through August 31. Thank you to everyone for your generosity and support with past donations!

Please note that the Library Friends groups at Central Library, Palmetto Branch Library and Rocky Bluff Branch Library will accept donations during this time. For more information on how to donate books and other items to these Friends groups, please contact the relevant Library location.
 
Create a Vision Board!

We are halfway through 2023—a perfect opportunity to check in with your goals for the year! Create a vision board of words and pictures for a fun and productive rest of the year. All materials are provided.

Mario Cart Tournament

Battle for bragging rights on who truly is superior at Mario Kart!  Mario Kart and Switch Game Console will be provided for participants. Joycons will be shared. 4 Teams of 4 will duel it out until one remains victorious!

While this event is for ages 16+, anyone is welcome to come and watch!

Thrill of the Grill Cooking Class!

Join Chef Warren as he shares all the tips and hints you’ll need to elevate your grilling from ‘ho-hum’ to ‘oh my!’ Whether it’s steaks, chicken, veggies, or dessert, you will learn the secrets of the great grilling masters.

Chef Warren will end his presentation with a cooking demonstration, preparing a healthy Grilled Marinated Swordfish entrée that anyone can replicate in his or her own home in less than 10 minutes.

Free Zumba on Fridays

Starting June 9, our South Manatee Branch will be offering free Zumba classes on Fridays!  Join Zumba Instructor Silvia Rodriguez for a fun, high-energy workout!  No experience necessary. Limited to 15 people per class, so please register in advance for each date of interest.

That's a Wrap on All Booked Up

In May we named the top winners of our All Booked Up reading challenge for adults, which ran in March and April!  Please give congratulations to our top four readers: Tasia O., Lauretta A., Holly G. and Staci L.! They each won a Kindle Fire tablet.

And for the "next place" branch winners, please congratulate Sharry L. (Braden River Branch), Cari M. (Central Library), Fernanda H. (Island Branch), Kristen G. (Palmetto Branch), Terry W. (Rocky Bluff Branch) and Georgette P. (South Manatee Branch). They each won a custom mug and coaster set!

Coming Soon: Our Archive Lab!

Do you have old family photos stored away that you would love to digitize?  We are excited to share that our new Archive Lab at Central Library will be opening later this month for self-service digitization!  It will be a public space for DIY digitization of documents, photos, scrapbooks, recordings, and other items by users seeking to preserve their family collections or organization records. Tools, guidelines, and training are available for digital archiving on professional-grade equipment such as scanners, VHS converters, & more.

Congrats to our Latest 1000 Books Readers!

We have our next two 1000 Books Readers in Manatee County! Congrats for reaching this incredible milestone. Enjoy that teddy and the rest of our 1000 Books Read prize package.

1000 Books Before Kindergarten is an early literacy program that encourages families to read 1000 books with their child before kindergarten. Any Manatee County children ages 0-5 can participate! Prizes are given at different milestones along the way to make it fun. And you can do this program along with the Summer Reading Program for double the prizes!
 
Five Month Countdown for Our New Lakewood Ranch Location!

We are in the five month countdown for the opening of the Lakewood Ranch Branch Library! Floor tile and ceiling grid is 100% complete, and it is ready for plumbing fixtures and roof pavers. Site entrance work has started, all site lighting is done and the chiller system is getting flushed this week.

Stay tuned for regular updates as our newest Manatee Library location gets ready to open!

Mote Marine Lab Talk for Adults

While our friends at the Mote Marine Laboratory often lead children's events for the library, this session is just for adults! 

Join us to hear all about Mote's research and most recent highlights!  From observing record numbers of sea turtle nests to assessing the populations of sharks on coral reefs, analyzing manatee vocalizations, and outplanting more than 100,000 corals, the Mote team has much to share!

Commissioner Town Halls

Manatee County Commissioners Amanda Ballard and George Kruse will be hosting Town Halls this month at Manatee Library locations.  These Town Halls allow Manatee County residents to join Commissioners for discussion and Q&A on topics related to the county.

Library Resource Spotlight
Seed Library

The Seed Library is taking root at our Palmetto Branch! In partnership with the UF/IFAS Extension Service, we give out seasonal Florida-friendly flower and vegetable seeds to anyone in the community on a first-come-first-served basis. In addition, several programs are offered for gardeners, beginning or expert, and the Garden Club meets every third Saturday of the month. Come explore your green thumb with us!
